Punta Gorda Isles- Punta Gorda, Florida
Stop for a moment and look how Punta Gorda (Fat Point in Spanish) protrudes into the pristine Charlotte Harbor.  You can just visualize why Ponce de Leon explored these waters.

Punta Gorda Isles (PGI) is a premier deep water boating and golfing community located one mile to the west of Historic Downtown Punta Gorda.  The residential lots in PGI are either on a canal or surround the St. Andrews South Golf Club.  The canal lots are described as being either Sailboat (no overhead obstructions) or Powerboat.  The Powerboat access lots have the restriction of a fixed bridge with a clearance of approximatey 12 feet off of the water.  The canal depths vary but are generally about 10-12 feet at the center.  The city can arrange to have dockside depths dug out if needed.  The entrances to Charlotte Harbor are maintained on a regular basis and usually have depths of around 6 feet.  The standard building lot is considered to be 80' x 120' with 80' on the canal.

PGI is a deed restricted community with a seawall taxing district.  I have resided under the deed restrictions for years, and I have found them to be sensible as well as an insulation for the property values.  Property owners are taxed $400 on their annual property tax bill to have the City maintain the seawalls.  This is a huge benefit and I can attest that the City does an outstanding job!

Punta Gorda Isles also has numerous condominium complexes.  Units range in size starting at 900 square feet and up; many units have their own "deeded" dock.  For more information on PGI, you will find the PGI Civic Association to be very active.  The web site is www.pgica.org.  You may also be interested in the Isles Yacht Club which is currently being rebuilt following Hurricane Charley.  For a rendering of the new facilities and informaiton on their activities, go to www.hamiltonone.com/iyc/iyc_frame.htm .
